A delegation from the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) visited the University of Tuzla today, where they met with the university’s leadership to discuss opportunities for enhancing cooperation, developing joint study programmes, and advancing the internationalization of higher education.
During the meeting, the importance of connecting universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina through academic cooperation, exchange of experiences, and joint projects was emphasized.
Speaking about the significance of the visit, the Rector of the University of Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Amir Karić, highlighted that the University is actively working on expanding international cooperation, developing new study programmes, and creating conditions for attracting a greater number of international students. According to him, collaboration with other universities is essential in addressing the challenges of modern higher education and meeting labour market demands.
“We are particularly focused on attracting international students. We are strongly committed to developing a Medicine study programme in English, and certain preparatory activities have already begun. We are also determined to develop several second-cycle study programmes in English,” said Prof. Dr. Karić.
The Rector of IUS stated that the University of Tuzla is regarded as one of the most promising university centres in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in terms of developing joint projects and academic cooperation.
He emphasized that future collaboration will focus on the implementation of joint projects in various fields, with particular attention to innovation and knowledge exchange.
“We are pleased to be developing cooperation with the University of Tuzla and believe that our joint projects will contribute to the development of innovative ideas emerging from this region,” said Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Kuşakcı.
He also announced the launch of a scholarship programme intended for young people engaged in scientific research, stressing that scholarship recipients will not be required to be IUS students. As he explained, support will be directed towards research in specific areas identified as priorities for the advancement of science and society.
Speaking about the development of new study programmes, Rector Karić stated that the University of Tuzla is currently working intensively on establishing interdisciplinary first- and second-cycle study programmes. The programme proposal has already been completed, and the University is awaiting the adoption of legislative amendments that will enable their implementation.
Among the planned programmes, he particularly highlighted the interdisciplinary study programme in Defence Industry Engineering.
“One of the programmes reflects both market demand and emerging needs, namely the interdisciplinary study programme in Defence Industry Engineering,” said Karić.
He added that new second-cycle study programmes in the fields of juvenile delinquency and forensic sciences are also planned.
“Furthermore, at the second-cycle level, programmes are planned in the areas of juvenile delinquency, forensic science, and several types of forensic studies,” Karić stated.
Visits such as this, aimed at establishing and strengthening partnerships, were assessed as an important step towards improving higher education and reinforcing the role of universities in the development of society and the region as a whole.
