A ceremonial academy held on 18 December 2025 in the A2 amphitheatre of the Rectorate of the University of Tuzla marked the 49th anniversary of this higher education institution. The ceremony began at 11:00 a.m. and was attended by numerous distinguished guests.
The Rector of the University of Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Amir Karić, addressed the audience, emphasizing the impact and dedication of the University’s academic staff and their role in shaping future generations of students by helping them develop their potential and discover their talents, as well as other achievements that have contributed to the development of the University and society. The ceremony also featured an address by the President of the Rectors’ Conference / Rectors’ Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Prof. Dr. Alena Huseinbegović, who highlighted the importance of cooperation among universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the role of the academic community in strengthening the education system and European standards in higher education.
The Mayor of the City of Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Zijad Lugavić, stressed the long-standing connection between the University and the local community, noting that the University of Tuzla represents one of the most important pillars of the city’s development. The audience was also addressed by the Minister of Education and Science of the Tuzla Canton, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Omerović.
As part of the ceremony, golden plaques were awarded to the best students of the University of Tuzla. This recognition was presented to a total of nine students, and on their behalf, student Mirza Aljić addressed the audience, expressing gratitude to professors, mentors, and the University for their support throughout the studies.
Special attention was also given to the awarding of recognitions to professors who attained the permanent title of full professor. On behalf of the promoted full professors, Prof. Dr. Sead Nazibegović addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of academic responsibility, dedication to scientific work, and the education of future generations.
During the ceremony, special recognitions were also awarded to professors emeriti, as a token of appreciation for their long-standing contribution to the development of the University of Tuzla and the academic community as a whole.
The celebration of the 49th anniversary of the University of Tuzla once again confirmed its important role in education, science, and social development, with a message that it will remain committed to excellence, quality, and social responsibility in the period ahead.
