The 31st Summer University Tuzla (LJUT 2026) was officially opened with a message encouraging students to remain open to new knowledge and ready for cooperation that transcends national and disciplinary boundaries.

Over the coming weeks, the University of Tuzla will host students, professors, and experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, continuing more than three decades of international academic exchange, dialogue, and collaborative learning.

During one of the University’s most recognizable events, LJUT 2026, taking place from June 1 to June 25, 2026, students, professors, researchers, experts, and citizens will have the opportunity to participate in numerous educational, scientific, cultural, and sports activities, said the Rector of the University of Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Amir Karić.

“LJUT is a meeting place for professors, students, and people from different cultures and identities. In this time of conflicts, violence, aggressive rhetoric from world political leaders, and wars, it is very important to insist on and persevere in civilized communication, dialogue, and understanding of diversity,” Karić stated.

He emphasized that the University should continue strengthening its capacities through better organization, new activities, and collaborations while striving to reach the standards of European universities, noting that it already possesses highly qualified professors.

“I believe we must be more successful and better. There is no level of achievement after which we can stop saying that we need to improve,” Karić added.

Karić also expressed gratitude to the founders of LJUT, everyone who contributed to the project’s development, and the University staff who prepared and organized this year’s activities. He particularly thanked the legislative and executive authorities for their long-term support in strengthening and advancing the University of Tuzla.

For more than three decades, the Summer University Tuzla has served as a space for academic exchange, knowledge sharing, and cooperation among participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad. Organizers emphasize that the event aims to provide opportunities for acquiring new knowledge and skills, promoting scientific research, activism, and international cooperation, alongside activities that encourage creativity, dialogue, and networking.

This year’s program includes more than twenty events covering social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, engineering, and biomedical sciences. Participants can attend workshops, summer schools, panel discussions, expert lectures, scientific conferences, and cultural events, according to Vice-Rector for International and Inter-University Cooperation Vesna Bratovčić.

“We participated in knowledge exchange through 15 activities with international partners, presented six international projects, organized 18 keynote lectures, and held three symposiums. Throughout its 31 years of existence, LJUT has proven to be a strategic platform and a place for knowledge exchange,” Bratovčić said, describing the long-term impact of the program.

She noted that this year’s activities continue the process of internationalization, digitalization, the introduction of hybrid formats, stronger partnerships with industry, increased visibility and promotion, and a focus on sustainability and the green agenda.

Among the most significant events are the Summer School of Law titled “Green Transition Between Law and Social Reality,” an international scientific and professional conference dedicated to early childhood development and preschool education, workshops on artificial intelligence and digital transformation, and international gatherings in the field of criminal law.

A special focus of this year’s program is on modern technological processes and the challenges posed by the rapid development of artificial intelligence. Through panel discussions and expert lectures, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the application of AI in education, scientific research, and everyday life, as well as the results of research conducted among students at the University of Tuzla.

“The Government supports the vision of the University of Tuzla regarding integration and development. What creates pressure for all of us are the expected results, but we must be aware that results in education cannot be seen quickly. LJUT is an example of this, because in its early years no one could see its impact, yet now, 30 years later, we clearly see its quality and achievements,” said the Minister of Education and Science of Tuzla Canton, Amed Omerović.

Recalling her own experience as a student and alumna who participated in organizing LJUT, Speaker of the Tuzla Canton Assembly Ivana Mijatović wished students and professors a healthy, productive, and educational experience during the event and success in achieving their goals.

“Through the Summer University, one gains a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience, and new professional connections and friendships, and I sincerely wish the same for all of you,” Mijatović said.

LJUT 2026 also features a range of practical workshops intended for university and high school students. One such workshop is “Documentary Film Production,” where participants can learn about the process of creating a documentary film, from concept to completion. Another activity is the “Summer School of Phytotherapy – Herbal Tea Blend Preparation,” which combines theoretical knowledge with practical work in medicinal plants and pharmacy.

The Summer University is not only an academic event but also an opportunity for students from different faculties to connect, exchange experiences, and develop new ideas and initiatives.

“The program is very interesting. I believe it is extremely useful for anyone who wants to learn something new and improve their skills. It is always important to work on oneself and pursue continuous development. For most people, summer means vacation, but that does not mean we should abandon our academic ambitions,” said Emina Husarić, a student at the Academy of Dramatic Arts of the University of Tuzla.

As a student of dramatic arts, she recalled last year’s screening of student films, which she considers one of the most valuable LJUT activities for students.

“All those student films and video productions usually remain within the Academy. LJUT provides a wonderful opportunity to present to the wider public what acting has to offer, what we do, and what we are working on as future actors,” she said.

Through its rich and diverse program, LJUT 2026 confirms its status as one of the longest-running and most significant academic events in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the same time, the event contributes to the international visibility of the University of Tuzla and strengthens its role as a center of education, science, and social development.

This year’s edition of the Summer University once again demonstrates the University of Tuzla’s commitment to providing students and the broader community with a space for learning, cooperation, and innovation, while addressing the challenges of contemporary society through open dialogue.
