Exploring ideas for the professional management of selected social problems and challenges in Bosnia & Herzegovina and Switzerland
The current pandemic has revealed weaknesses in dealing with social problems and challenges in Switzerland and Bosnia & Herzegovina. These weaknesses are particularly evident where important social services can no longer be provided or can only be provided to a limited extent; thus, the situation of people who are dependent on assistance deteriorates noticeably. This is a challenging situation both for professionals and those seeking help. At the same time, pressing social issues such as fleeing and trauma have disappeared from public awareness. While in crisis, professional support services are becoming increasingly important. The possibility to respond and the conception of services are essentially dependent on the existing contextual conditions and the necessary attention and sensitivity to the need for support.
The International Online Podium addresses selected topics and offers the opportunity to discuss professional opportunities and experiences that can contribute to maintaining and promoting the capability of professionals to act under challenging circumstances. On the first day we will focus on the importance of (self-)reflection in professional social pedagogy and social work and provide insight into a method of intervision. On the second day, we will discuss the need and possible ways to support vulnerable people who have fled and have experienced trauma as well as the impact of trauma on professionals’ response to the refugee crisis.
The main topics are areas of interest of a Bosnian-Swiss group, including practitioners, students and lecturers who have prepared the International Online Podium together, to promote inter and transdisciplinary cooperation as well as learning and development across borders.
